Retaining Walls Synopsis

The Benefits of Retaining Walls

If you live on a sloped piece of land or have a hill near your home, you may want to look into retaining walls for your yard if you do not already have them. Retaining walls are a type of foundation that works to keep water and sliding soil away from a home. If you encounter sliding soil and water flowing into your home off the hill or slope of the land it can do serious damage to your home and potentially cause a weakened foundation for your house.

Running water and sliding soil into the foundation walls of your home can do real damage to them. They may cause water to seep into your home and you could end up with a flooded basement or mold and mildew growing in your home. Mold and mildew are a toxic substance and can cause health problems in some people. They are not things that you would want present in your home. The running water and soil may also cause your foundation walls to bow or crack as well from the constant pressure and force that is put on them. One way to prevent your house from being damaged with running water and sliding soil is to put up a retaining wall in front of the home where the hill or slope runs.

Retaining Walls Solutions

Retaining walls have quite a few benefits to them. The can be made sturdy and strong to withhold and running water or soil down a hill or slope so that it does not come near your house. You can prevent your home from flooding, from getting mold in the basement or crawl space and from getting cracked or leaning foundation walls. If you have a severe problem with running water in your area, you can even add a drainage system along with the retaining walls to help divert the water away from your home.

Another benefit of retaining walls is that they can also give you privacy around you home. You can even build your retaining walls around your patio so that you can have your own little private area outside and not have to worry about your neighbors. They can be attractive to look at, as you can put stone or brick in them to match your home or your landscaping.

Retaining walls can serve both a functional purpose of protecting your home from being damaged as well as providing privacy and a landscaping feature to your yard.
